WHAT IT IS

A cable driven slide system uses an electric motor, cables, pulleys, and related drive components to move the slide room in and out.

Cable systems can vary by manufacturer, so identifying the exact system installed in the RV is important before making adjustments or repairs. Lippert’s F.A.S.T. Track and BAL’s Accu Slide are examples of cable driven designs, but their components and service procedures are not identical.

HOW IT WORKS

An electric drive system applies tension to cables routed around the slide room. As the mechanism operates, the cables and pulleys work together to pull the room in or out.

Because cable routing, tensioning, and adjustment procedures vary by manufacturer, always follow the instructions for the specific cable system installed in the RV.

WHAT TO WATCH FOR

Watch the slide as it moves. The room should travel smoothly and remain square in the opening.

Inspect visible cables, pulleys, attachment points, and mounting hardware. Look for fraying, loose or damaged cables, rubbing, unusual slack, uneven movement, or abnormal noises such as popping, grinding, or binding.

COMMON PROBLEMS

Common cable driven slide problems can include frayed or damaged cables, improper cable tension, pulley wear or damage, loose mounting hardware, motor or electrical problems, and a slide room that begins traveling unevenly.

If the room becomes crooked, a cable becomes unusually loose or tight, or you hear abnormal noises, stop operating the slide until the cause is identified.

Know which cable system you have before adjusting anything. Cable driven systems may look similar from the outside, but their adjustment and service procedures can be very different.

If the room begins moving unevenly or you see a damaged cable, stop and inspect the system rather than repeatedly cycling the slide.
