What is an RV inspection?Next to your residential home, an RV is potentially one of the largest purchases you might ever make! You wouldn't dream of purchasing your residential sticks and bricks home without an inspection. This includes the important (and costly) items like major mechanical, electrical, plumbing, roof, structural condition, leaks, etc. Your RV contains more systems than a residential home. Depending on the RV, we are inspecting 2 water systems, 3 to 4 electrical systems, solar, generator, converter/inverter and the list goes on.

How long will the inspection take? The length of time to do the inspection varies based on the type of RV, the amount of installed equipment, and the number of issues identified. We will not rush our inspections. We want to provide the best inspection possible and will take whatever time is necessary to complete the job. A Full Blown Blue Ox RV Inspection can take between 6 to 10‑plus hours.
-
I found the perfect RV, how soon can an inspection be scheduled?Multiple factors affect the schedule: inspector availability, seller availability, weather, travel, etc. We will do our best to schedule and meet your needs. We are very accommodating, and many times an inspection can be scheduled for the next day. Please contact us to discuss your scheduling needs.
-
What is needed for the inspection? The RV will need to be available for the duration of the inspection without others working on it or being shown to other possible buyers. It will need to be set up so that everything inside and out can be fully evaluated. It will need full utility hookups, including water, sewer, and electricity.
-
Are inspections done on new RVs?We do inspections on both new and used RVs. Unfortunately, serious issues can be found on new RVs, even after a dealer has performed their pre-delivery inspection (PDI). Dealer PDIs are limited in scope due to the time it takes to perform the inspection. In addition to doing pre-purchase inspections, Blue Ox also inspects RVs that you currently own to identify issues before they become major concerns, or before your warranty has expired. Know up front before taking your RV in for the warranty work, every detail that needs to be addressed.
-
The seller is reluctant to allow an independent inspection, what do I do?This would be a red flag, in our opinion. It would be concerning if the seller did not want to allow an independent inspection prior to completing the sale. Consider what the seller is afraid to disclose? What is the seller trying to hide? It’s your money, and you should have the opportunity to know exactly what you're buying, before completing the sale.
-
Can you do an inspection at a dealership?Yes! Most dealers are very accommodating in having an independent RV inspection. Please ask the dealer what their policy is regarding independent inspections. Proof of insurance can be provided upon request. If a dealership doesn’t allow 3rd party independent RV inspections, that is a HUGE RED FLAG, we suggest you RUN!! RUN FORREST, RUN!!
-
How can I ensure the seller doesn’t sell the RV before the inspection? We recommend that if you find an RV you want to purchase after having an inspection, work with the seller to have a written purchase agreement that gives you a set number of days to have the inspection and financing completed before completing the sale. If you place a deposit, make sure it is refundable if you decide not to purchase the RV within the timeframe agreed upon. Blue Ox RV Inspection does not provide legal advice.
-
What happens after the inspection? As soon as the inspection is finished, we will finish the report and email a link for you to view. Once you've reviewed the report, you should call the inspector to discuss the findings.
-
Do you share the inspection report with others? No! The inspection report and issues found are only discussed with the purchaser of the inspection and those who you specifically designate. As the buyer, you are free to share the report with anyone you would like to.
-
How far will you travel for an inspection? We are willing to go anywhere to perform an inspection. If the RV Inspection location is too far to drive and you would like to fly us to the location, reach out and we can discuss your particular situation. Our Blue Ox RV Inspection team and Blue Ox Endorsed teams have been flown to AZ, TX, CO, MD, NJ, FL and AL.
-
Who do you do RV Inspections for?Buyers have pre-purchase inspections done to highlight issues that could cause problems in the near future. It is important to have that independent evaluation on the condition of the RV to help negotiate a price that considers needed repair costs. When purchasing a new RV, it identifies problems that must be fixed before accepting delivery of the RV and shortening the wait time on repairs. We work for our customer...not the seller. We are there to protect you and your investment!
-
I’m buying from a private seller but they don’t have hookups for the inspection?Blue Ox RV Inspection recommends that the RV be taken to an RV Park for the inspection. This works out well because most have good parking areas and full hookups. The downside to this is the cost of a two-night stay and limited availability during the winter months. Let the scheduler know if this will be a problem as there may be other options available.
